One of the highlights of any autumn is when you start seeing caramel apples. Store bought apples are OK... but never as good as homemade in my opinion. A hotly contested topic is if you can substitute the Granny Smith apples (or any green variation) for a Gala (or another red variation). Green apples tend to be a little sour for my taste, but I LOVE caramel apples! Others in my household think it's sacrilege to eat any other type than a Granny Smith in a caramel apple, but they are WRONG!!
